Hello everyone-

I received a speeding ticket in Chapel Hill (Orange County) for violating (G.S. 20-141(B)), which generally states going in excess of 35 MPH inside municipal limits. The officer placed my speed as 60mph in the "other information" section, but the speed is not specified in the specific charge. The officer made clear to me when handing me the ticket that he was doing me a favor by not citing me for doing 60 in a 35, and instead just citing me for exceeding the speed limit. My question is what you think the likelihood is that I could plead this down if I showed up on my court date?

Not good. The ticket is already a lesser charge.

If he'd actually cited you for 60 in a 35 [G.S. 20-141(j1)] you'd
stand a good chance of having your license suspended.

You should really talk to a local Chapel Hill lawyer before making a
decision.
