Today, I heard someone say that Bartlesville, Oklahoma (home of Phillips
Petroleum) is the champion of PhD's per capita in the world. Funny,
because that's what we here in central North Carolina say about
Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, the so-called "Research Triangle."
Anyone else heard this one about their city or about any city, and does
anyone have any facts to back any of the claims up?
The most PhDs per capita is in Los Alamos, NM.

"Though best known for nuclear weapons, the national laboratory also pursues peaceful endeavors such as nuclear medicine. Little wonder, then, that Los Alamos has gained the reputation as home to more Ph.D.-holders per capita than any other community in the United States. To learn more about the area's history and scientific contributions, visit Los Alamos Historical Museum and the Bradbury Science Museum."

Also, apx. 63.4% of the population in Los Alamos, NM have a bachelor's degree or higher.

This has always been a common myth here in Huntsville, Alabama. We are nicknamed "Rocket City" for a reason, but I don't think we have the highest rate of Phd's/capita. I have tried to research the data but I can't find a definitive answer as to which city holds this coveted boast.
